Lovely to see this now! My mother in 1929 wrote: . "The village of Windermere is grouped around the railway terminus on steep slopes overlooking the large and beautiful wooded lake and is practically continuous with the old Bowness/Windermere station. We eventually discovered as the road passed the church, crowds of little boats in the lake which is indeed very beautiful.
A fresh walk back with a little rain then to bed to sleep on of the usual, softer than iron, board type beds.
We breakfasted at nine, a good one too then followed a long discussion to what we would do. We’ve decided to see the Lake District then get as far south as possible- and we have.
We’ve had just a wonderful run and are absolutely delighted with the place. Had a grand day yet it was not prettier than lots of places in Scotland. A man at breakfast that morning, who travelled with his wife said he didn’t think much of Miss Todd’s country! (Poor fool)"
Thank you all so much for your comments....I just threw this photo in quite late at night as I have so many from that visit to the Lakes & didn't want to waste them..totally surprised how late or early you folks are up!!!!!
Oh and I think the image might make a nice high contrast monochrome landscape too ...especially those fab clouds
