PLEASE pretend the 2hr.parking sign is a “ hitching post” for the horses! Very hard to photograph!
Cobb & Co. in Queensland was founded in 1865. First stables were in Albert St. on the site later occupied by P. Fleming & Sons. A move was made to the spot where the premises of the Queensland Machinery Co., Ltd., later stood & later on the Brisbane headquarters were at the junction of Queen Street & Petrie's Bight. The first coach ran from Brisbane to Ipswich. In 1881 the firm became a company, with a capital of £50,000, running some 3000 horses a total of around 10,000 miles a week, the largest transport company in Queensland. The first Cobb & Co service in Queensland was in 1865. This service ended when the railway link was completed in 1875. In 1871 Frederick Shaw joined the firm, established a large office, coach building factory & stables at Petrie Bight. The company expanded it’s services, reaching North Queensland in the 1880s. Then into South West Queensland These coach services allowed for an otherwise isolated number of communities to maintain regular contact with the rest of the world.
Fabulous mural and such interesting history too.
How odd that they even had 2 hour parking back then to hitch their horses to as well, ha ha.
I know how difficult it is to get some pictures without some sign or other in the way. Some people are so inconsiderate to us photographers aren't they.
@koalagardens@beachdog@ninaganci Thanks so much, if you could have seen me trying to get a shot without the sign!!!! I did receive some amusing looks & smiles. But, What the heck, I got my shot...
