Peaceful Doves ~ by happysnaps

Peaceful Doves ~

The peaceful dove (Geopelia placida) is a pigeon native to Australia and New Guinea.
The Peaceful Dove is a small, sturdy dove, with a long graduated tail and wedge-shaped wings. The eye-ring, eye and cere (the soft parts above the bill) are all blue-grey. The peaceful dove belongs to the Geopelia genus, with Geo meaning ‘ground’, and pelia meaning ‘dove’.The doves fly in a rapid, undulating motion. The wings make a flushing "frrr" noise when the birds are in flight.
Good to hear about doves as opposed to pigeons! The top shots almost look like budgies! I know they are not!

What pretty little doves, they seem much more approachable than the doves I have around here.
