I waited with my wonderful wife (who isn't the biggest cycling fan) for 7 hours so we could have a great place right against the railing right by the finish to get this shot! I love cycling and I was in heaven. This the finish of the TDF stage 2, in Spa, Belgium. The winner was a Frenchman Sylvan Chavanel who was a few minutes ahead of everyone else.
Hey Steve, the 50mm is definitely worth it just because it's so cheap, but yes, it is annoying at times because you have to stand well back sometimes to frame pictures the way you want to. If you can afford to spend at least four times as much I'd get the 28mm f/1.8 because that's effectively a 45mm, or check out a third party offering like Sigma's equivalent for a price somewhere in between. To reiterate though, at something like £80-90 the Canon 50mm f/1.8 is a no-brainer.
