A labor of Love by harvey

A labor of Love

I spent ALL DAY on the 23rd with Anne, her relative Agatha and her daughter Anja cooking for the Wigilia dinner on the 24th. We went to the local market in the morning at 8am to pick up supplies, and then spent all day making two different kinds of perogies (hundreds!) two types of soup, some bread, and 4 different desserts. At the end of the night we were filling all the perogies and we just had to test some out!
These look like the permelis my Carelian mother-in-law used to cook when she still had her strengh. I got these also in Vladimir, Russia. My mouth is watering when I look at these!

I think that making that quantity of food (and especially things like perogies) is much more fun when you do it as a group. I've never had a perogi (spelling?), but they looklike something I would like. And after all that cooking, you all deserved to try them out!

Well, they look wonderful, there's nothing quite like making food from scratch and then enjoying it as it hits your tastebuds. I'm sure everyone loved it! :)

Of course you had to try them! A good cook knows you always need to be tasting your food! Sounds like quite a long day of cooking, but I bet the meal was fantastic!

Wow! Sounds like a huge amount of work but they look delicious. My husband's family is Italian and they always get together to make Tortellini for the holidays which is somewhat similar...meat filling wrapped in pasta dough. Also labor intensive but soooo good! :)
