5 o'clock and there is a roast in the oven for tea, when all the power goes off. We contact the electricity company hotline, and they tell us that they had chosen 5 o'clock, tea time' to interrupt the power to 66 houses to put in a permanent fix for a problem that had been caused by the storms, and that power wouldn't be up until perhaps 11 o'clock. After much debate about ruined chickens and sandwiches, Jan heads off to a take away.
She is gone about half an hour when the power comes back on. I figure that after half an hour she is almost certainly on her way back, but I give her a quick call. It turns out that the local is closed so she headed further a field, and that an accident on the M5 has closed the motorway and their are queues all over Bromsgrove.
Anyway, she headed back, and the roast was completed, rather later than normal, but unspoilt.
This is one of the candles that kept us in light for a couple of hours.
