Went out on the porch to give an invading squirrel a talking to today when I realized that this Blue Jay did not fly off at my presence. He was only about two feet away from me too so I took this as a bad sign. He barely moved over the course of an hour. We gave him a little food, sheltered him in some branches out of the snow and hoped for the best - but he was gone by the afternoon. Poor guy. I tend to take the Blue Jays for granted around here because there are so many of them, and they can cause quite a ruckus. But they really are quite beautiful. I love the bright blue pattern on their wings. I am very sorry to see this one go....
