The playground equipment known as the "merry-go-round" is an endangered species in this day and age of helicopter parents and, uh, litigation.... As you can see, this one, in a neat little playground near Harvard Square in Cambridge, has been modified so that you can no longer fall down from it. Heck, you can even have a seat if all that spinning wears you out... Although if you put your mind to it, you can still fling yourself off of it in grand centrifical style. And let me tell you, my boys were putting their minds to it - and having a blast! Kids - having fun without helmets - a concept.... :-)
i saw an article about a group that hooks these up to generators, and kids in third world countries can generate the power for their school by playing during recess.
@chard I've seen that too - as well as ones that work as pumps and the spinning brings water up from the ground. I mean, just look at those faces! Just think how much energy and water they could generate!! :)
@hbdaly@chard You two are so brilliant together! Long long ago I heard about an exercise bike or a treadmill that generated the electricity for the television so you had to work out and not be just a couch potato! Seems quite a good concept here as well!
Hi Holly. I've just checked out your album - love your documentary style and sense of humour. You have great subjects to be documenting in your lovely boys - your house must be lots of fun. Looking forward to keeping up with your and their antics.. Thanks for the follow. I'm following you now too.
