I understand the expression but I'm not really sure where it comes from. My guess is that it is because the Catbird will sit wherever the heck he wants and he doesn't care what you think about it... ;-)
Happy to see a pair of them in my yard again this Spring. These are birds with some serious personality and they are fun to watch. I'm a little out of practice though, which is why I forgot to put his tail in the picture... ;)
