Down Where You Belong by hbdaly

Down Where You Belong

You may be a cute little fellow - but down in the grass is where you should be (or what passes for grass in my yard...) not hanging from my suet cages like some furry trapeze artist!!

Recently our bird feeders have become overrun with squirrels. They have figured out not only how to eat all the suet while hanging upside down - or else knocking the whole cage to the ground - but tipping the seed feeders on their side until all the seed spills out for easier access to their buddies in the grass below. Yesterday we attempted to do something about it by risking life and limb to attach the feeders to higher branches in the tree by long fishing line that the squirrels can't shimmy down. Alright, to be fair, my husband risked life and limb - I just held the ladder while he loudly proclaimed over and over again that this was probably not such a smart idea... ;-)
Today was rainy and I did almost nothing except sit in the kitchen watching a whole lot of confused and stymied squirrels running up and down the tree to no avail. The gravy train (suet train) was gone! (Don't worry all you pro-squirrel people out there - and I know you're out there! - there is still plenty to eat on the ground.) They just need to stop being so acrobatically greedy... ;) So far so good!
Great shot of the little thief! I never understood why they didn't just wait under the bird feeders for what the messy birds spill. Fav.
