Spotting My Grandma At Breakfast

I had breakfast with an old friend this morning. It was a retro 50’s Diner with lots of chrome and jukebox music to match. (The Elvis Presley Breakfast special was excellent by the way...😊) I looked up over the counter at one point and saw these tins in the decor. I was immediately transported back to my childhood and my Grandparent’s house in Stamford CT. Charles Chips used to home deliver potato chips and cookies back in the day in these awesome brown tins. I don’t know how widely popular they were - neither my friend nor my husband had ever heard of them - but I remember my Grandmother always having these tins in their house. It was a lovely and unexpected trip down memory lane for me. (I remember thinking as a kid that having an entire tin of potato chips delivered to my door sounded like a dream come true!) 😉
My Grandma has been gone for about 15 years now. And I totally forgot that Charles Chips even existed. But thanks to those old tins over the counter, I feel like I got to spend some lovely time with her today.
I remember Charles Chips tins! I always wondered where people got them. Nice that they reminded you of your grandma.
