I have never seen so many swans as this week on the River Trent. Hundreds of pairs with their cygnets - most of them now already having shed their ugly-duckling grey down for beautiful white feathers. Walking along the tow-path, I noticed this feather caught in the wild-rose bush, where rose-hips are already beginning to ripen for Autumn.
