The boys have been doing a sailing course again this week. It was very gusty out on the lake today and there was a lot of capsizing going on. I caught Ed here during a lull in the wind - and that's Will in the background. I have to admit it always looks a bit chilly to me, and Will caught a crack on the head from a fast-moving boom, but they both love it.
Seeing all the TV footage this week of kids no older than this running wild and looting on the streets of London and other cities makes me want to weep. I know there is no excuse for what they are doing, but it is so sad and horrifying that people this young feel they have so little to lose in life that they get caught up in pointless theft and violence that will only make things worse for them...
Before I even read what you wrote I was thinking how wonderful that you are helping your boys to learn skills and have hobbies they will enjoy even into adulthood. How sad that some families do not raise their children with values or a sense of respect for the property of others...makes no difference how much money a family has, what counts is teaching your children respect, and demonstrating that you care about them. I think a of of parents today allow their kids to run the household instead of the other way around! OK, I'd better stop rambling...I know we are in agreement on all this! Sounds like to day was a better day d/t the rain...
I agree with all you & Karen say & it seems there is no family life for some of the young people in our country !! The reason for all these gangs I think is a replacement of a sense of belonging that they don't get from family life ! Your boys are lucky & I'm sure they know it !! love the bright sail !
I was having the same thoughts this week as Adam cycled off to tennis camp - no excuses for what they've done (at all) but there's no way they'll ever be going to £80-worth of tennis lessons......
