Our fields are full of dense tangles of blackthorn trees dripping with dark shiny sloes, and every year I vow to pick them and make sloe gin. This year I finally got round to it, and now have a bottle of improbably purple and delicious smelling grog in the pantry - should be ready in time for a Christmas snifter.
