Every year we get together for a lovely evening of food and drink and dancing with friends just before Christmas. This year the venue was the Air Museum at Duxford, where we joined hundreds of other party-goers and sat down to our meal among the planes - it was a most spectacular display. In case you're wondering whether I belong to a strict religious sect that requires men and women to sit at separate tables, we only do this for the first course. Our tradition is ladies table and men's table to start, so we can all catch up on the gossip, then we switch places, with the only rule being that nobody can sit next to their own partner. The eagle-eyed will also have noticed that everyone in the entire room appears to be in black apart from one shameless show-off in red. Yeah, that'd be me. I should have read the invitation properly. I thought it said black tie (i.e only applies to men) not black theme. Oops!
