The concierge at our hotel told us that the Shaanxi Grand Opera House was a "must -see" for everyone who visits Xi'an. We were a little wary that it might be a Disney-esque show for tourists, and I have no idea what a Chinese historian would make of it, but we thought it was
fabulous.
The performances of traditional Tang Dynasty *dances were breath-takingly beautiful.
This was the Spring Outing dance.
We watched these elegant, graceful dancers while scoffing our way through the dumpling banquet - "dumpling" doubles up to descrive both the food and the way you feel when you waddle out at the end.
*The Tang Dynasty - 618-907 AD is described as 'the most glistening historic period in China" - lots of glistening going on here.
