I don't know how I've lived in Cambridge so long without going into the Folk Museum. It's a treasure trove of fascinating exhibits - even the building is extraordinary (an old pub/coaching inn with some of the steepest, windiest stairs ever). I loved the story of Charles Rowell, a Cambridge man and champion of pedestrian marches; these were popular contests in which men competed to walk or run the furthest distance over a period of six days. I couldn't help thinking of the vast potential for massive cheating and Wacky Races style shenanigans.
