On the road for World Book Week, I stayed in the rather grand Victorian mansion that is Grims Dyke Hotel, former residence of William Gilbert (of Gilbert & Sullivan fame). The grounds were beautiful, although the restaurant was a spooky experience - I was the only person in on a Tuesday evening, hovered over by three lugubrious waiters, with piped music on a loop, instrumental versions of Three Times a Lady, and California Dreamin'. I ate and ran!
