Olympus TG-5 and Canon G1X Mkii

I forgot to post a photo of the TG-5 so here's one together with the camera I'm using this week: the Canon G1X Mark II, a large sensor compact camera from 2014

The Canon doesn't look much bigger than the Olympus but it is. It is a lot thicker and it weighs a hefty 560 grams compared to the Olympus' 258 grams!

It has a 13 megapixel 1,5 inch sensor - about the same size as the sensor in Micro Four Thirds cameras (a little bit larger actually). The best part of the camera (I hope :-) is the lens: a 24 to 120mm equivalent with an aperture of f/2.0-3.9.
I have a weakness for Canon camera and I am looking forward to seing what the G1X can do!

Such an interesting project. I've just had a scary thought - you must have sooo many chargers and cords to keep track of !!!

Rob Z brings up a good point, lol.

@robz @cdcook48 Very true! Batteries and chargers are a nightmare sometimes! But another thing I'm doing with this project is to put the cameras in boxes together with their batteries and chargers and the criteria I use to decide what box a camera goes in is what battery it uses :-)

Hi Helge. You sound very organized!! I had another thought too. :) Do you ever sell any of your cameras? At the moment I am using a little Sony DSC-TX30. It was gifted to me by my daughter when she got sick of using it. I really like it, but I'm afraid I'm a bit rough on cameras. I've already dropped this one onto rocks twice and damaged the screen a little. I've had a look at new versions and they all seem a lot bigger! Would you possibly have anything similar that you may be interested in selling in the future? As I said - just a thought for the future... Cheers Rob

@robz Hi Rob. Selling cameras... now that's a sore point. I'm much better at buying cameras :-) But I have sold a few cameras over the years. Usually to finance the buying of other cameras :-) I am hoping to slim down my camera "collection" with this project but I imagine shipping anything to Australia would be quite expensive though. I don't know the Sony camera you mention but have you checked out the Canon PowerShot S cameras. Models to look for would be the S120, S110 and S100. I love my S120.... I should probably have that as my camera for the week pretty soon. One of my absolute favourite cameras. Very small, very versatile and very good image quality.

@helstor365 Hi Helge - thanks so much for your reply. I love that are a camera collector - I'm a collector of nearly everything! :) The Canon you suggest sounds perfect. My old camera was a Canon and I quite liked it. I'll be very interested to see the S120 when you use it as your feature camera. Thanks again. Cheers Rob
