Mays Landing Railroad by hjbenson

Mays Landing Railroad

The Mays Landing Railroad had passenger service into Atlantic City from the mid 19th century to the mid 20th century, the house is the original station master's home, next door was the station itself, which is now boarded up and the tracks have been removed. Both pictures are sooc
Have the converted the tracks into a "Rails to Trails" project? Or is the Right of Way just languishing?

@webfoot Thank you Paul, about 100 yards behind me it starts a 10 mile rails to trails going west, going east you very quickly run in to an old unsafe bridge

Very nicely done. You can see the chairs on the porch clearly. The sun on the buildings is warm and appealing. Interesting structures.

@laurentye Thank you Lauren,
@scooter Thank you Scooter,
The station keeper's home has retained its character by the residents keeping it in good repair.

I love this photo. My dad worked for the railroad all of his life, so naturally I have a soft spot for them. And especially the old ones. Its a shame one day we will not be able to see them at all for new construction.

@miata2u Thank you Peggy, railroading was, and still is, important to our country, hopefully it will be preserved or at least photographed.

Nice captures Harry. Love to see history preserved. I like the rails to trails idea but it requires a lot of volunteer hours to maintain. Looks like a lovely area to explore.

@pamfromcalgary Thank you Pam, the trail here actually leads to another trail that comes within a 1/4 mile of my house. All together it is 14 miles.

What a wonderful old house.. Makes me want to sit on that porch to watch the day go by.. You find the neatest things to take pictures of, Harry..

@buggus Thank you Oleta, south Jersey has not grown as rapid as other places which helps in preserving places with character.
