Assateague Wild Horse by hjbenson

Assateague Wild Horse

We visited Assateague Island National Seashore today (4/22) The herd of wild horses is split between Chincoteague in Virginia and Assateague in Maryland. The herd in Maryland is treated like any wildlife by the National Park Service; whereas, the Chicoteague herd is owned by the local volunteer fire department.

@frankhymus Thank you Frank, the park service does not supplement their diet in anyway, so they have to do all their own foraging

@kph129 Thank you Kristin, I appreciate the fav, I was surprised by the diversity of colour on the wild horses here since there has been no outside influence for at least 200 years
