A discussion about windmills inspired me to dig out my old photo album. Since the photos were originally shot on 35mm film, I took pictures of the pictures in my scrapbook, edited them, and made this collage.
Here's the story that goes with them: Taken in Holland at Kinderdijk in 1992 or 1993 (one on right). I walked off the paved path (bad idea) to get just the right angle with the tall grass and sun behind it. Next thing I knew, I sunk up to my knees in very stinky mud. It was awful. I had to sit down to keep from sinking further (I still took the picture, just a lower angle then I wanted). My husband set he video camera down to record it, then came out carefully to help free me from the mud. He had to stay back a good bit. I must have just taken one step too many and found the soft ground. As he's trying to pull my feet out of the mud, a tour guide with a bunch of Japanese tourists came by, asked it if was a joke, then left us a small travel pack of tissues by our video camera! LOL! I had to change clothes in the parking lot by our car (luckily, it was a fairly empty parking lot). I think I ended up throwing my shoes away because I couldn't get the smell out of them.
@taffy Thanks! It was pretty funny, even at the time, but oh did that mud smell bad! I had to ride home (back to our apartment in southern Germany) stinking, nearly 5 hours!
It is great how just looking at a photo can bring back such vivid recollections of a time and place and in your case, smell! Are you sure it wasn't a perfect time for a spot of shoe shopping anyhow? Fabulous images.
@teodw If it weren't a Sunday evening in Holland when everything was closed, I probably would have bought a pair of shoes because I had to ride home barefooted. I did go shopping the next day! Any excuse to go shoe shopping! LOL! @swilde@lynnilou@ceilidh@tuya Thanks so much!
@quietpurplehaze Thanks. I took up photography in college and worked as a newspaper photographer for a while. I tend to take photographs of everything! LOL!
@swilde @lynnilou @ceilidh @tuya Thanks so much!
