My Get Pushed challenge this week is to photograph something German that is part of our everyday life. We have tons of souvenirs and artwork from our 49 months there. But, the biggest impact on our everyday life is our living room schrank (pronounced shrunk). It's 17+ feet (5 meters) long. Luckily, it is modular and has pieces that you can attach to the curio cabinets to make it turn a corner. We bought this in 1993 and it cost nearly as much as our first car. But, all these years later it's still in great shape. It's been in our 2nd apartment in Germany and our houses in IL, IN, NH and NC. Realtors always think we are nuts when we pull out a tape measure and start measuring wall in the living room. To get it to fit here in NC, we merged the living room and dining room into one space that we use as the living room. The only problem with this schrank is the TV cabinet, as it will only hold a 32" TV. In NH, our living room was so big, we almost couldn't see the TV because it was too far away! But, we'll keep it. Where else will we keep all of our souvenirs.
