The Tories are watching you! by homeschoolmom

The Tories are watching you!

I loved the split rail fence that surrounded the Alston House at House-in-the-Horseshoe historic site. I imagine that the Torie loyalists who attacked Phillip Alston's Patriot militiamen who were camped on his land first observed them from behind the fence. I hope the historical significance of this property isn't forgotten. For the Nov. word for today, forgotten!
You're probably right but it's hard to imagine someone's front lawn being the site of a military battle!

@olivetreeann Especially in NC during the Revolutionary War. I never really thought about skirmishes between locals in the fight for independence.

If you are interested in the story of the loyalists you should read Lydia Bailey by Kenneth Roberts a wonderful Maine author. Good shot.

@joansmor Oh, I'll have to check that out. I've read tons of stuff about the Civil War, but not that much about the Revolutionary War.
