The 'Please Don't Look Too Closely' Shirt

Well, it's finished!
My first attempt at copying my favourite shirt which is so old it's falling apart. It was about as cooperative in taking a photo as it was in the sewing machine...

Forgive the manic material - I was going for the same type but at a price I wouldn't care if I messed up. And it was purple. :)

It is an objectively terrible item but I'm still kinda proud of it. There's lots of things (most things tbh) executed poorly, but they're not wrong - just badly done. ;) The buttonholes are already coming undone (my machine was terrible at it) and they're in the wrong place, but... it fits! And it feels like my shirt. It was amazing how it suddenly felt like a shirt when I could pick it up by the collar.

So anyway - the mission to 'not worry about good, worry about done' was a success. I've learnt a lot about what matters and what you can fudge. I know where the pattern I made is wrong, and where it's right (as in copied correctly) but I want to move things for a better fit (read: move the damn bust dart).

I think I'm in a good place to have another go - though I plan to try a commercial pattern I have for comparison first.

And yes, I'm seriously considering wearing it to an ABBA night we're going to in a couple of weeks. 😂
Congrats on getting it done and generally speaking “right”! Remember…. Don’t let “perfect” be the enemy of “good”!
