Mamang-os at Kambingan Festival of Tuy, Batangas won as one of the Runners up in Aliwan Fiesta 2012 Streetdance Competition
Although it is a small town, the municipality of Tuy mirrors the rest of Batangas, which has been blessed with vast tracks of greenery, where agriculture is twinned with livestock raising. Tuy’s townsfolk have particularly focused on breeding goats, which are major income-earners for them. And sugarcane is a major crop. Old Tuy natives viewed goats only as sarificial animals. But today, they yield, milk, butter, leather goods and even carpets. When the people learned to plant sugarcane, the two livelihood pursuits became the town’s economic drivers. From sugarcane, they process sugar, feeds, vinegar, and ethyl alcohol. From the waste product called bagasse come paper, cork board, and other items. Then there is the way to chew sugarcane, called “pamamang-os” – for which you need sharp teeth in order to get the sweet juice.
