This is Friedrich from the book Echo by Pam Muñoz Ryan. My 5th grader loves reading and this book is her favorite at the moment, so she decided to make Friedrich for the Pumpkin Book Character Contest at school. She had no example as the book has no pictures, but the librarian loved it and she got a honorable mention.
That was with Halloween. Now it is time for Friedrich to be eaten. I'm sorry in a way and we will miss him in our living room, but this faith might be better than to rot.
Never heard of the book or the writer so I checked it out on Amazon. The story does sound quite gripping, I cannot begin to think how the harmonica ends up in another country.... Interesting how she has given the pumpkin a two toned face, makes me wonder why...
Hi @stephanies I'll try to quickly explain - I read the book too and it is quite a nice story. The first harmonica was found by this boy in Germany. He had a birthmark on half of his face (hence the two tones) and was bullied for that. He worked in a harmonica factory and when he had to escape (2nd world war) he put the harmonica with a shipment of other harmonicas. Then it ended up in USA and a new story begins.
