We had a day and night by the river today, the Cunard ship Queen Elizabeth was in port for the 100th birthday celebrations of Liverpool's Cunard building at Pier Head.
We went on the Mersey ferry for a river cruise for a close-up look at the ship then walked along the river front to see it from the other side to make sure we hadn't missed anything. There was more entertainment and fireworks later for the sailaway so we headed back to the city centre.
We timed it just right to see the sun setting as we got to the riverside. The Queen Elizabeth is in the distance on the right hand side.
We watched a fabulous firework display then waited for the sailaway, but there was a long delay to the departure so we gave up at midnight and came home. Too late and tired to post this though!
I was there too Christine. Apparently a passenger needed medical treatment hence the delay. It was very cold so we left at 11. The sky was beautiful though.
@crewnelson how funny, we could have been standing next to you! It was so cold but we had about 5 layers on so were just about okay. We saw an ambulance leave the landing stage so we thought the ship would depart then but it didn't. The guys were on top of the mooring points ready to untie the ropes for an hour or more, they must have been frozen!
