Yes, I could have spelled it another way....the pronounciation would remain the same. But my children will read this and since the majority of them don't "get it", I don't feel the need to offer enough information for them to look it up in the dictionary.
We were amused with, yet anxious for Zoë to outgrow her pronounciation of "shoe", and she did. Besides Lili's version of "cracker" (in case your imagination isn't working, just replace the 'cra' with 'fu') and Finn's rendition of "frog" (I am assuming you don't need help with that one), "doosh" has been the only other word spewed forth by our toddlers that might make outsiders perceive us as "That Family"......You know, the ones that offer a can of lighter fluid and a book of matches instead of Legos and Dr. Seuss.
I'm not sure how but Phoebe has started out with the same pronounciation of shoe as her older sister did. It began not long ago, a sweet little voice asking "Doosh?" whenever we were putting her shoes on. Then she became more confident, demanding, "Doosh!" when wanting us to put her shoes on. And then she noticed the outsiders, neighbors, teachers, little old men at the grocery stores. They all wear shoes, too.
Yes, I will admit, I am "That Mom". .....You know, the one who just smiles when her baby points at other people and yells, "DOOSH!"
(I'm sorry to be writing comments over & over again, but I've been so busy with my measly 4 kids, that I haven't had a moment to comment lately, so I'm playing catch-up.)
