"Border Control"

If you have ever seen the movie "Up", you know who "Dug" is and how he is easily distracted by "SQUIRRELS!!!!".

Now, imagine me, in the kitchen, hanging streamers, centering tablecloths, putting 312 cupcakes onto cupcake stands, and blowing up balloons, all with 14 other people in the house. I look over to the backdoor and shout, "LADYBUG!!!" Upon closer inspection, I notice there is something different about this ladybug....her head is not black.

I grabbed Gracie and I grabbed my camera. And, there I was, while my sister continued with the hanging of streamers, centering tablecloths, putting 312 cupcakes onto cupcake stands, and blowing up balloons, flat on my stomach in the middle of the living room all, snapping away.

Later that night, I asked my friend, Google, why this ladybug had no black head and this is what I found out - She is a Mexican Bean Beetle. Eight spots exactly on each wing. At first I thought for sure that she was indeed a Squash Beetle as everything and it's mother's larvae has killed off my squash, melons, and cucumbers and is now working on the pumpkins. But a Squash Beetle only has 7 spots on each wing.

I should have known....a Mexican Bean Beetle. Yet another reason for better border control. ;)
Interesting information and great macro of this Mexican Bean Beetle. Sounds like she's not very welcome.

Thanks, Denise. She's welcome as long as she's not the one destroying my gardens. No beans out there so I don't think it's her. Besides, I can't discriminate too much about who goes into my backyard, seeing as how the husband has given my kids their half of their Mexican roots. Me? I'm an Irish girl. ;)
