Helix Lucorum

This big guy was slithering up the grass yesterday morning after a much needed overnight shower. He's a common garden snail, but I googled some information about him and discovered that he is one of 3 types of edible snail, but that he provides the toughest 'meat', so he's not the most popular. I also discovered that his fastest speed is 1.3cm/second. Who knew?!
Wonderful shot! I have a hard time seeing the word "meat" in regards to snails though. Ha ha ha! ;)

The things you learn, huh! Never seen any part of the snail other than the shell so this is quite a treat. Wonderful close-up

I love snail shots but we don't have them here that I can find. This is a wonderful closeup!

Wow! What detail you've captured in this very up-close shot. I like snails, not as dinner, but as interesting creatures. Loved watching them when I was a kid. Don't see them where I live now though. Thanks for all the research you did on this speedy character.
