I don't know how it came about, but our family used to get the use of this cottage which sits half way up the hill Morrone, near Braemar. My dad did work on it, in return for getting to use it as a 'holiday home' - long before they became fashionable. I remember that he built the rear extension - it became the kitchen, as the original building didn't have one. I always remember coming up here for weekends - about 40 years ago, or more! I have no idea who owns it now, but it has a great view down over the valley - although it's quite a hike to get to it!
The hill that you can see, in front, and slightly to the right is Craig Coinneach - I posted an image of a cairn at the top of that hill on Friday.
@sarah19 Well, if you do, go to the top of Chapel Brae in Braemar and park at the duck pond or 'Pol Na Ceire' - There are several nice walks from there - the circular route, or another route up Morrone or another around the side and back down by the golf course .... although you'd then have to walk up Chapel Brae again to collect the car. Alternatively park in the Games Park car park, and head up from there. Craig Coinneach is another nice easy hill walk, or round the Queen's Drive. Spoilt for choice in that neck of the woods!
It makes me smile thinking that you must have so many wonderful family memories from coming to this cottage on the weekends. I just love special family spots like this. A wonderfully special photo! :-)
