So, here I am in Aberdeen, Scotland! Hubby is doing a retirement course today (!), so I had a free day to wander the streets. I did some research on light fittings and blinds/curtains for the new house extension, but didn't commit to anything. I got lots of photos of the Nuart 2018 Street Art Exhibition, and I will share those eventually, but I thought that this house in Aberdeen's West End, merited a place in my album for this month. It's a beautiful building, made of granite, of course, and built by a Master Mason, John Morgan, in 1866. Rubislaw House, 50 Queen's Road.
It also made me think of the story of my mum and dad meeting. Mum had left her native Shetland Isles (where she was a nurse) and was licking her wounds having just split up with her long time boyfriend. She took a job in a house similar to this, as a housemaid until she got her life back together. My dad had a summer job from University delivering meat for a local butcher shop. Mum's house was on his round. He got her into trouble though by delivering the meat very late on his first day on the job (he had got hopelessly lost in the streets of a town he didn't know that well - he was a country boy). They married 3 months later, had 3 kids and lived together for 55 years - until my mum passed away 7 years ago. I like their story. :-)
Wow! This is certainly a magnificent house! I loved reading the story of how your mother and father met each other. It was obviously a case of 'love at first sight' and definitely a strong and true love since they were together for 55 years. Their beautiful love story warms my heart and makes me smile. :-)
@gaylewood And even funnier, when talking with dad when we were out for dinner with him, he corrected my story! It was fish, not meat. And, he wasn't late, he delivered it to the wrong address altogether! :-)
