Ballater Station by jamibann

Ballater Station

A rainy day in Ballater. This was taken early this morning with my i-phone, on my way back home from my jog. I wanted to show you this building which re-opens on 26th August. Some of you may remember that I posted an image of the ruins of this building which was burned down in May 2015 (26th, if you're interested, I couldn't get the link to appear on this post). It's the old railway station that Queen Victoria used to use when she came to Balmoral for her summer holidays. The trains no longer run, unfortunately, but the station has been lovingly rebuilt, at great cost, but is now in immaculate condition again and almost ready to welcome tourists and locals alike. They've done a great job, and I look forward to visiting the restored railway carriage, and the bistro very soon.
It looks really nice now. It is so good that they rebuilt it.

What a sad story regarding the shop. Will Amy open it again there? They've done such a beautiful job with the restoration.

@taffy Thanks Taffy! I don't know why my link didn't appear. I'm afraid Amy's given up her photography business. Not sure what she's doing today. Such a shame, the timing was so bad for her. And yes, the restoration took years, but it's excellent. They opted to go for green and cream rather than the red and cream of the last restoration as apparently it was more in keeping with the original station.

Beautifully restored

Wonderful that it has been so carefully restored. Far too many historic buildings are just bulldozed!

Good to hear it isn't opened yet. I wondered why no cars, no people, although you did take it early morning.

Great capture of the station and the rainy day

How lovely to read about the care people have for historic sites. No one would know anything terrible had happened, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the reopening festivities!
