Braemar Gathering by jamibann

Braemar Gathering

Yesterday morning's opening ceremony at the Braemar Gathering. As a past President of the event, dad participates in the opening parade. He is standing on the right of the four people inside the Royal Box. On his left is the current President, David Geddes, who is making the opening speech.

My brother works as a steward every year and comes up from Cambridge for the event. He is standing with the other stewards, with his back to the camera. He is the first red kilt in from the left hand side on the image - same tartan as dad - Red McDuff.

Later in the afternoon the Queen came along, as usual, at 3pm. This year, she was accompanied by Prince Charles, Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence.

We all had a lovely day out, and the sun even shone for us!
Very nice to see and good that you had a good day for the occasion. Isn't Her Majesty amazing the way she still attends so many special occasions when on holiday at Balmoral. She does love being there though.

This is wonderful -- I love all the kilts, and the sense of history combined with family connection.

I do love a man in a kilt and now you give me dozens! Great picture.

Love all the different tartan kilts. Pity about the woman in the lilac leggings, she kind of spoils the display!

@jamibann Oh please do try to post her picture!! I truly do like her. :-)

Nice capture of the evrnt. I also love all the tartan kilts. I don't think I've ever seen such a gathering. How exciting. I agree the lilac leggings certainly look out of place.

All those kilts are a wonderful sight for an Aussie girl :) Your father must be so proud of this gathering. Now for the Queen??

Wonderful capture of this event.

I like seeing all the tartans. The woman in the purple leggings must not have received the dress code. Haha!

Interesting to see this lovely photo! My daughters & her husbands best friends live in Braemar, you might know them, Barry & Joanne Morris from the garage? I know Barry was on duty here too as we saw his photo following the pipe band.

@happypat Oh my goodness, yes! We do know Barry and Joanne - although my dad knows them better than I do, living in Braemar as he does. Mum knew Joanne quite well. They’ve recently sold off the petrol pump side of the garage and kept the workshop. Small world!!

@jamibann That's amazing, thought you might know them! Cathy & Joanne were at school together in Longridge & all four of them are the greatest of friends. They are off to Lisburn in October celebrating 50 birthdays! We know them too of course! Love your 365 photos, just me sort of diary style posts! I will enjoy following you! If you se them mention Cathy & Garth, Jo will be delighted to meet you as they know all about 365!

@happypat I now have to ask you a question, Pat! Did your daughter and her husband ever do a challenge in Braemar called 'Heart of the Park' a number of years ago? I used to do it regularly in July, and remember on at least a couple of consecutive years, chatting to a couple who were friends of Joanne and Barry (they were house guests). I now wonder if it is possible that this was your daughter and her husband. If I see Joanne, I will certainly be telling her about our coincidence ... although I see less of her now that they are no longer running the petrol-pump side of the garage. I'll also be pressing that follow button, and look forward to seeing your photos too.

@jamibann Just asked Cathy if it was them that did the Heart of the Park & she said no, it would be one of their more energetic visitors!!! Jo & Barry are on the Isle of Lewis this week, wedding anniversary today! Thanks for the follow Issi.
