I have inherited the family silver, probably because no-one else can be bothered with it! I have a full 12-person set of cutlery with serving utensils. It's been in storage for years as I haven't humphed it around the world with us, but now that we're back in Scotland for good, the silver is out of storage, and yesterday was the day for polishing it up for the Christmas season. It's beautiful but it's very impractical when one doesn't have staff! ;-)
Oooh lovely! We have been trying to find proper silver to buy this year as we have just had our silver wedding and the old original stuff we have been using on a daily basis for years now has lost a fair amount of its plating. Hardly anyone sells it these days. Not modern enough apparently! Love proper silver. Yours looks great!
@casablanca I remember, years back, buying a set of 6 small knives to complete my set. It is King's Sovereign and I got them at Jamieson and Carrie in Aberdeen, for a small fortune! Don't know where you'd get them today. I love the silver, but can't say I love cleaning it. It will come out for dinner parties and the Christmas season from now on though. No point in having it if we never use it.
There’s nothing thing nicer than well polished silver. I use Silvio & it works OK on mine but I am neglectful & only clean them when the forks are going brown! I have mine in the silver drawer but use a modern set of six place settings for everyday plus my B&B ones which aren’t silver, Harry bought them one day off a man who came to the door. They are German & he was selling hotel surplus equipment, quite heavy but they look good on my dining table.
I like the sparkle you captured. I would say you did a good job of polishing. Maybe use it more often than you usually do and it won't require as much polishing when you really want it.
