Today's walk was up Pannanich Hill, along and over Craig Vallich - 13km, and all very near to home. We discovered some interesting stuff along the way.
Firstly I spotted a sculpture of a rabbit sitting on a drystane dyke. No idea who put it there or how long it's been there. I'll post that photo another day.
Then at the top of Pannanich hill, I found a stag's antler - something I haven't done since I was a kid. I was delighted! Hubby took this photo, so can't claim any credit for it, but I was very chuffed with my find.
Then we found a cairn, which we've been looking at from below for weeks, trying to work out the best way to get to it. Well, we made it today, and found it had a plaque saying 'A.R.M. 29 March 1871', but have not yet been able to find any references as to who might have built it. It is a big cairn, and I know the Royals (Victoria in particular) had a penchant for building cairns in the hills, but usually these are documented. This one wouldn't seem to have a Royal connection. But it's interesting, nonetheless. I have set my dad on the trail of the history of the cairn, and if I find out I shall let you know - and I'll post a picture of it!
Ooh what a fabulous mystery, I wonder if you will discover its history! Absolutely love this - so full of delight and laughter! What a treat to find an antler.
Great find now collect a few more and you could make a light shade/chandelier... at a friends the other day and they have two in the home.. they are deer farmers.. be interesting to hear the story behind the Caine.
