Edinburgh always inspires me. I had a lovely day there on Saturday. In the morning we went to the National Portrait Gallery to see the BP Portrait Awards Exhibition - oh, there were some wonderful portraits, but no photography allowed - hence this image of the advertisement for the event, outside the gallery. On Saturday afternoon it was the rugby, where Scotland lost against Wales, but put up a good fight, so it was a great game.
The only bad news of the weekend was that my little Canon G16 broke down. It's my camera for travel and sports holidays where I can't or don't want to take my bigger camera. I need to replace it before I go to Norway on Friday! Help! Folks, can anyone recommend a particularly good compact camera? I tend towards Canon, but I'm willing to be persuaded to switch to something else if necessary! Must be compact though.
For the above reason, this photo was taken with the i-phone!
Shame about the Canon G16 - I had and loved the Canon precursor of the SX730 / 740, superzoom camera, but gave up on Canon when the lens cover distorted and scratched the lens - and found it was apparently a regular fault that Canon weren't acknowledging. I'm currently using the Panasonic equivalent because it shoots RAW, in theory, and am still ruing the loss of my much loved Canons.
Oh no — the loss of a faithful camera is a sad thing. When my trusty little travel camera (Canon) got broken (when my coat slid off the car seat about the moment I shut the door, crushing the pocket the camera was in), I felt so lost without it and missed it so. I have no suggestions though for a replacement. Good luck making a choice before Friday's trip.
