Dad had an email the other day from a lady in Australia, Kerry, who had tracked him down.
Kerry thinks that her great-grandmother (Ann) and my great-grandfather (John) were brother and sister.
Dad is very interested in our family tree, has done a lot of research, and was able to put his hands on this photo. It's his great-grandparents, John Duff 1837-1924 and Margaret, with three of their eight 'children'. Dad thinks that the girl in the photo is likely to be Ann, Kerry's great-grandmother. It may also be that the taller of the 'children' in this image is my great-grandfather, John, but we can't be sure.
Dad's records showed that Ann had possibly died in 1910, but it seems that she and her husband and child emigrated to Australia in 1913.
I'm now in touch with Kerry too, and look forward to trying to find out more about our family connection. Fascinating stuff!
Beautiful photo. They are such treasure when you think on how few people were able to have photos taken.
Great that your Dad has the research in place too. We've just heard a relation from Philadelphia is coming to Lewis next week. Her great grandmother was a sister of my grandmother who died when I was a baby. So many folk of that era had to emigrate to survive during these decades.
A wonderful family portrait! I love how they were all so serious back then when having their photo taken! I wonder what they would make of today’s selfies! Lol!
Priceless photo and family story. I am also into genealogy and tracing my family history, so I understand what a treasure it is to have a picture like this.
@sarah19 Well, we now have definite confirmation of being related. Kerry in Australia has the very same photo we have (not this one) but another one of our great-great grandparents. It's quite incredible and quite exciting!
