We walked the Freedom Trail in Boston yesterday. There were many wonderful historical buildings en route, but this memorial, near the North Church, where a dog tag hangs in honour of each and every US service member killed in Iraq and Afghanistan caught my attention. When the wind blew the dog tags tinkled and whispered gently in the breeze. Very touching.
Late afternoon we enjoyed a seafood meal on the waterfront, and in the evening we went to the Boston Opera House to see 'Miss Saigon' - a very touching and emotional musical performance. Another great day.
Home to Blighty later today - but there's still time for another walk in Boston, and hopefully a few more oysters!
If only we humans could just behave and get along: none of this senseless loss of life would have to happen. But it's amazing that there are so many that are willing to risk, even give their lives, for the sake of others. I bet the sound of these moving in the breeze was very unique.
Over all the time the human race has been on this planet it has still not learn't that war is futile and and achieves nothing. We are suppose to be the intelligent superior race when are we going to prove this if ever.
