Another day another cycle ride

One of our 'regular' cycle rides. This is the view at the highest elevation. We always stop for a regroup here ... at least hubby always waits here for me to catch up!

I've been suffering with sciatica for the past 3 months and so have been sticking to walking whilst on medication, as I didn't want to do anything to flare it up again. It's still far from better, and although I wasn't on top form for cycling, it doesn't seem to have done any harm, so I will continue to cycle when I can, all the while choosing my routes carefully. My leg does not like it if I have to stand up for the hills. Sciatica is such a painful experience, and one I've never been through before. Old age does not come alone, they say!!!
Beautiful gentle scenery. Sorry about your sciatica. I am still struggling with hip osteoarthritis and now have to use a mobility scooter. After trying lots of remedies without success, my latest weapon is meditation which supposedly changes the brain's response to pain - I'm trying very hard!

@quietpurplehaze I have heard about that ... a friend was telling me. I haven't tried it yet, but I might in the future!

Electric bike? It's on my wish list. Just for the really steep bits. It also means you can go that bit further with the camera.
June 18th, 2020
@yorkshirekiwi No, we're sticking with pedal power for the moment, but if this sciatica doesn't go away soon, it'll be a walking stick I'll need! The e-bikes definitely have some attractions though!

stunning up there :)

Oh, so sorry to hear this ; suffering a bout of sciatica at the moment myself but it has been in my past, so Iā€™m familiar with it. The only thing that changed is that my chiropractor informed me yesterday that he couldnā€™t treat me before I saw my GP first and my GP told me this morning that he wants me to have a check up first ; the symptoms of sciatica are very much alike the ones that result from methastises in the spine ; so, an x-ray an bloodwork for me tomorrow and posting some more pictures from the time when I could actually bend over šŸ˜‚

that looks easy to me

Such a great view from there....do what you can but, don't aggravate that sciatica...my husband has sciatica & it is very painful...
June 18th, 2020
Ouch sciatica is so painful. I have had bouts over the years. I don't mind getting old but nobody tells you it is painful do they
June 18th, 2020
Itā€™s a lovely view but I am sorry about your pain.
June 18th, 2020
And you got there before him.....šŸ¤£
Sciatica is a very debilitating ongoing pain, I had it once & wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!
Gorgeous view.....quite a climb too I think a walk would be on for the last stretch!

Gorgeous view, Issi. Sorry about your sciatica.

Am expecting Julie Andrews...any time now...singing ā€œThe Hills are alive to the Sound of Musicā€! Chapeau to you both ;-)
My sympathy for the sciatica...have been there and it's not much fun. I found that best thing was to put my hands on the top of an open door and let my body hang, allowing the body to re-arrange itself. Alternatively, lie on the floor, stretching arms beside and beyond your head, stretching legs and feet as much as possible. Worked for me...Bon courage!

Sorry to hear about your incapacitation. It's so painful. Great area for hiking and cycling.
June 18th, 2020
Not an easy route, even for one without pain problems, but a lovely view. I've used a number of stretches, especially knees to chest yoga moves.
June 18th, 2020
I admire that you still walk and cycle. A good friend has sciatica and I know it can be quite painful. Great shot though! It's encouraging you have such a lovely reward when you get to the halfway point!

Beautiful scene..sorry about the sciatica.. Is this an open country
or off paved trail ride?
June 19th, 2020
@momamo Oh, I hope all goes well for you Monique with your x-ray and bloodwork. Keeping everything crossed for you. xx
June 19th, 2020
@tosee It's a road cycle, but we came off road for a quick rest before heading down the hill.
June 19th, 2020
@olivetreeann I was literally gritting my teeth and bearing it on the hills, BUT no bad reaction to it, so that must be positive!
June 19th, 2020
@randystreat I have a number of stretches and exercises I've been doing for years now to improve my various back issues. This is my first experience of sciatica though ... I don't like it a lot, and I hate taking medication, but needs must!
June 19th, 2020
@s4sayer Yes, my first experience, and doubtless not my last. I do sometimes hang from my son's exercise bar in the garden and do myriad stretches and exercises every morning. I think I need to be patient for a while longer, but I feel (and fervently hope) that there is light at the end of this particular tunnel ...
June 19th, 2020
@happypat Yes, akin to being shot in the hip - especially first thing in the morning. I'm hanging in there though!
June 19th, 2020
@peterday Ha ha ... literally, Peter!
June 19th, 2020
What a beautiful place to be out and about in. Hope you can get on top of your sciatica. And i also love Margo's @s4sayer comment :)

omg....you and I are going through the same thing! I feel for ya! Mine's been going on since Jan 20 this year. 2020 has truly been the worst year ever so far. Glad that biking helps, it does for me too. I just starting hiking again and that has been doing wonders as well.
June 20th, 2020
@blueberry1222 I feel for you too! Mine started gently at the beginning of the year, but didn't become really painful until the past 3 months. By March had become excruciatingly painful - especially first thing in the morning. I eventually had to go to the doctor (by video) in April. Since then, anti-inflammatories daily, and a nerve-targeted painkiller over the past 3 weeks. The pain is still there, although much less intense. I'm doing as much exercise as I can. Cycling and walking seem to be fine. Any bending and sitting still for too long is a problem though! Hoping to get an MRI sometime soon, to see what is going on with my back. I have had issues with herniated discs over the past 5 years, so that is undoubtedly the cause. I hope yours clears up very quickly. Keep moving they say. xx

@jamibann Ya, I got an MRI last month...huge bulging disk at L4/L5. grrrr. I refuse to do surgery, so I'm doing every exercise that is possible to heal it. Seems to be working, but it's taking forever. I finally asked for a few weeks off from work to try to heal....I've been pushing and pulling patients for the last 6 months and it's not doing my back wonders! This break has been helping so much that I really don't want to go back to work.....

Great shot.
Once when buying new running shoes, the guy at the shop commented on the movement of my knee when demo running in one pair. He wouldn't recommend these as I would have sciatica problems. I'd had a twinge earlier. The pair he gave me were great and when I bought new running shoes years later there was a running treadmill in the shop for checking out the movement of my feet/legs. I've never had any further problems. Just something to think about!
June 21st, 2020
@blueberry1222 Stick with it ... it has to heal eventually. At least we have to hope that!!!
June 22nd, 2020
@sarah19 I will certainly bear that in mind when I'm back up and running, literally!
