It's the time of year to start feeding the birds, and so I've bought a couple of new feeders with outer cages which seem (for the moment) to be keeping the bigger birds off. We have lots of little cole tits coming in to feed at present. They are so funny to watch. They don't hang around long, and they seem to 'cherry pick' through the mixed seed, throwing away anything they don't want. The pigeons and crows just hang around underneath and scoff the rejected seeds. A win-win, I believe!
Same here, the lorikeets pick out the sunflower seeds and reject some of the other mixed seeds. The crested pigeons and noisy miner birds eat the rejected seeds.
You are doing well then! We gave up on putting food out because the pigeons and magpies took over and chased all the little ones away and made a big mess while they were at it. Maybe in our next house.......
Sounds like the activity at my feeder- we have Chickadees which look very much like this little fellow. But they don't get to pick and choose at my feeder- it's all sunflower seeds. The seeds that fall on the ground do so because they're just sloppy eaters! Great shot!
