The garlic is in! Hubby is delighted with his garlic pulled yesterday. He planted it in December. This is the first time we've tried growing anything over winter, and it's looking good. Can't wait to try some!
And today, I'm actually going to meet a couple of girl friends for lunch in Aberdeen. What a treat!
A successful harvest and hopefully a successful outing. My brother told me a great trick with garlic that actually worked. Cut off the flower heads and all the energy goes into bigger garlic bulbs!!
@taffy We planted the cloves in December in a raised bed in the garden, and scattered mulched leaves over the top of the soil. Never touched them again, other than minor weeding around the shoots, until we pulled them. They apparently should be planted around the shortest day and harvested around the longest day. Frost is good for them. It certainly worked well for this particular variety, (Czechmate) but not so well with another (Provence Wight) who's bulbs are still not well formed. We did the same thing with shallots (Jermor) and harvested them last week too. @olivetreeann
This is such a great and natural picture. I'm glad some sorts produced such great bulbs. They will enrich many dinner, for a good season. Oh, and you could conserve them, and spice olive oil,....
