Portsmouth was buzzing yesterday, with the start of the Clipper Round the World Race. We couldn't be there, but happily, our son and his GF Bella were there to see Mhairi off on her big adventure. We watched the race departure on live feed and Bella sent us photos throughout the day. We even got a quick FaceTime with Mhairi from Portsmouth. I loved Bella's photo of Alexander wishing his sister all the best. An emotional day for all! I'm now keeping an eye on the boat's progress as it sails towards Puerto Sherry in the south of Spain, the first stop-over. This morning they were in 5th position. I wonder how their first night went?! Safe travels, Mhairi.
How exciting and what a lovely photo. Such adventurous young people makes for interesting times, but .....living with the all too short together times has its own challenges for Mums and Dads.
Oh you will be so nervous for her until she gets her sea legs & into the routine! Mhairi will make so many new friends but an unsettled night for you I expect! Brave kids for such adventures!!
Cheering her on too and sharing your angst! Remember not to worry if they disappear from trackers when in more open ocean. It happens. Beautiful picture and she looks SO excited! All the best to her (and to you!)
@julzmaioro They will be near you Julia, but not too close ... Leg 4 brings them around Australia and then they sail up to China. Our daughter however is only doing legs 1 and 2. She will finish up in Cape Town, South Africa.

Ok, I thought maybe they would be heading to Cape Town from the east. I would’ve popped in and said hi to her if she was moored here. Wonderful adventure!
You must be so excited Issi, no doubt anxious too ;-)
tracking the vessel on it's journey , how cool is that
