This is the scene as we started descending Ben Nevis on Sunday ... so very different from the way we'd come up, over the ridge and the boulders. And that stream of people of every age, shape and size was just constant. We climb many mountains in Scotland and never meet anyone. This really is a popular walk, especially when there's visibility on top. We descended about 2km on this path and then cut off towards a loch and back to our start point in the North Face car park.
That's it for Ben Nevis, folks. It's' done. It's in the bag. And I'm moving on, you'll be glad to know! :-)
Interesting contrast of your usual climbs & it’s great that lesser fit mortals get to conquer such a mountain but my word it’s not half as lovely as your normal climbs!
Such a contrast from the way you went up, but at least this way those who are not so fit & keen can still get to the top. Have loved following your Ben Nevis journey 😊
@happypat I found it a bit sad, to be honest. Like the surface of the moon with loads of people! The contrast is incredible between this side of the mountain and the other.
From all the previous photos, it is a surprise to see a height that is so populated. I can imagine a bit of disappointment. But many people can enjoy this climb.
Beautifully shown - that pov just gives such a wonderful impression of the vastness and barrenness of these areas and the cairns give a great impression of scale.
This path looks like an easy and boring path. But there are many people for whom even such a walk is a challenge. For them, the satisfaction of reaching the top is enough. And the beautiful ridges are for enthusiasts trained in climbing.
@haskar Yes, I believe it is quite boring and relentless. It's more accessible to more people than the other route, but pretty tiring to walk as there is nothing to distract the attention and you have to turn around as you ascend to see the views - otherwise you just have a big block of rocks to look at - until you reach the summit that is!
@olivetreeann I think if the weather is right, most people could climb Ben Nevis on this route. The weather is very often not right, though. Especially in winter. Don't forget that this was summer and one of the 50 days a year that the summit of Ben Nevis is not under cloud.
A completely different landscape compared to your normal climbing routes, and very interesting to see. Very neat layers of clouds and mountains in the background.
Well done anyway.
