Not many great shots tonight due to hands shaking from bear encounter - literally rounded a corner and I walked into the back of my hubby who had stopped because the bear stepped out in front of him.
He did say there was a great photo op in front of us - but I was too darn scared to move (I did get the bears butt as it went into the woods). Keith stomped his feet and made himself big (he is already very tall) - and eventually it left. We were over two miles into a three mile hike with a 600 foot elevation gain and did not want to go back the way we came at dusk.
Anyway - I got a few shots of the lake - wil look at the others tomorrow. A bit of a crop and some increased saturation is all I did to edit.
I can't believe you would even go anywhere if a bear sighting was possible! I think I'm a wimp beside you two! This was absolutely beautiful - I couldn't even hold a camera after an encounter like this!
Wow what a scary moment Jan, I don't think I could hold the camera steady either, my first snake and funnel web spider encounter I just backed away. This is a lovely Jan, beautiful scenery.
@libertylady@grammyn@nanderson@chard@lalypics@timandelke@ceci@markjohnstone@mornegrewe@elaine55@jo13@maggiemae@swilde - thanks everyone - these are black bears we have around here - not grizzlies - and it isn't uncommon to see them while hiking in a national park. Part of the problem is that tourists will feed the wildlife in the park despite signs not to do so. It can make wild animals dangerous and cause them issues in winter when no-one is there to feed them. My hubby thinks this particular bear was relatively docile and maybe hoping for a handout. Still, we decided we won't do that trail at dusk again, and will let the Park Ranger know today. Yep - I was definitely scared. Seeing them across a meadow is one thing but up close definitely increased our speed after we got past him. LOL.
Wonderful, beautiful capture, Jan. So sorry for your bear encounter, you do have to be so very careful. The news around here is about two bear attacks (nothing terrible) but you do have to be careful. The newscaster mentioned you can buy bear mace, mabye you should look into that if you don't already have some protection.
Oh my! That sounds terrifying! I agree that from a distance would be thrilling, but up close, no way! I would have been a mess! The scenery is gorgeous and wonderfully captured. Perfect name for it, too.
What a scary encounter...so glad it turned out okay. A great story. This is a beautiful shot of Reflection Lake....what a great time you have had. Looking forward to more shots!!
