Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross,
To see a fine lady upon a white horse;
Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes,
And she shall have music wherever she goes
Banbury is the nearest town to where I live. It has to be said that it isn't the most inspiring of places.
People from all around the world know the above rhyme and sometimes they take a detour to visit the 'cross'. It isn't unusual for them to be a bit disappointed! The statue has only been there for a couple of years - prior to that all there was to see was the stone structure in the middle of a busy traffic island.
Nice shot. I think you're too modest about your town. It had shed loads of history based there, particularly civil war stuff. Perhaps it's not exciting enough.
Thanks @ellida . I live only a couple of miles from Edgehill Graham and you are right the Civil War history is very rich. Sadly, Banbury is a rather run-down town, with all ot the problems that go along with that (some of which are a little beit too exciting in their own way!), and people are often disappointed to see that the cross is in the middle of a busy traffic island.
I love the POV and the feeling the viewer gets that the horse and rider are just approaching Banbury Cross after their journey. It's very crisp and colourful.
It's a long time since I've been to Banbury but I have fond memories - my father had a connection with the place. This is a lovely picture of exactly what I remember :)
Hi Jann, have been doing a quick read and looking at your photos. So there are lots of sheep in the Cotswolds, and cakes in Banbury, and a few interesting towns nearby like Oxford and Bath. The place called The Slaughters looks really interesting. Now I had thought about a street shot, or a selfie, but the challenge is this: a big landscape from the Cotswold Edge, preferably at dawn or dusk but guess that might be a bit late or very early, so the expanse from the scarp would be great if there is such a place. BTW. Like your tree album.
