...............until the cricket sings (Greek proverb)
and as you can see, that cricket's lips are well and truly sealed.
I took this last week at the butterfly farm and am using it today because I seem to have gone into partial hibernation owing to the grey, cloudy, bitterly cold weather.
Had a bit of a lie in today and have been a bit lazy all day as Graham has had the day off and I seem to have switched into holiday mode. Things got off to a slightly tense start tho when he put low fat Flora on my toast and I snottily told him that he might as well have sprayed the toast with water. My mood was not improved when he then went on to put butter on his own. Oh dear, I am pathetic at times.
Anyway, had a word with myself and started to be nice.
Sam is at my parents for a few days and Graham and I went out for lunch at pub we have been meaning to try for a while. Angus DIDN'T get on with his art GCSE coursework......... I have just about given up on him.
Three good things:
A husband who puts up with (or doesn't notice!) my grumpy moods
Saw a bullfinch and a pied wagtail on the bird feeder for the first time today. They must be hungry because I usually only see them in the field behind the house, not the garden
A roaring fire. I am sat here in front of one toying with the idea of going to the village pub, but doubtful that I will be able to be drawn away from its magnetic toastiness.
Hard to leave the fire when it's cold but it sounds like you have had rather a nice day ....lets face it if you have managed to eat a meal you haven't cooked the day becomes very special!
Your clarity of this cricket is stunning...love the sound they make, just so summery!
Love the account in your daily diary !! hope Hubby remembers to BUTTER your toas in the morning !!! Lovely colourful sharply detailed macro shot !!! What is he stepping in ---it looks very gloopy & sticky ??
Love your diary entries... Impressed at your ability to sort your mood without chocolate or sleep (my only ways of feeling better!!). Great shot... Super detail and reflection!
Fab fellow!! I can't be doing with Flora! Adam did quite a bit of art at half term - just not the stuff he was supposed to do. When he finally finishes his portfolio I am popping a cork. It's these creative types - they are good starters but rubbish finishers. It'll happen when the deadline really looms (hopefully!)
I didn't know crickets could be yellow! Fab photo! Your day made me smile - I hate toast with hardly any spread, non fat or not! Did someone not tell you butter is now good for you?
This is fabulous. Almost looks like one of those plastic ones you buy the children. Too perfect to be true. Just wonderful FAV
Your Angus sounds the same as Eve who is also doing art GCSE. She really wishes she had never chosen to do it. Fine with all her other subjects but I think art requires that extra mile (which she is not willing to put into it!)
Oh and I love the toast thing, I am just the same. You should have heard me explode when I asked for bedsocks for chrismas and he bought me mens treking socks from Aldi (not the cashmere pastel ladies socks I had in mind)
@streetlyend Yes it sounds like Angus and Eve might have been separated at birth. I so wish he hadn't done art, he doesn't really like his teacher very much which I think is part of the problem (intrinsic laziness aside!) and as for presents, I think it pays to be VERY specific. Aldi men's socks made me laugh.
Stunning shot! I'm so impressed by the focus-reflection. He looks more like a grasshopper to me. Never seen such a pretty cricket. All the ones around here are quite dark.
Another day in the life of country folk!!! LOL butter your toes....love all the comments! agree though has to be butter! Absolutely fantasstic clarity in this.amazing well done and a fav, enjoy breakfast tomorrow!!
Bit late to this party, but you've been with the man for x years...he really should know better. I don't hold any truck with the spreads & marges of this world. Butter or don't bother.
@pasadenarose Actually, you are right. He is a grasshopper. I asked a friend of mine who lectures in entomology. Maybe I should pretend that it was a deliberate mistake to find out who knows their crickets from their grasshoppers. Thanks for the comment :0)

Remarkable looking fellow, whatever he is. Love the coloring. :-)
