this looks a lot better on a black background (i.e. viewed large) if only to see the little lamb bottom left - it could only have been a day or so old I think.
saw the first new lambs of the season today. Always a welcome sight and one that offers promise of longer days and warmer weather ahead. These babies were running up and down on the rubble and other remains of an old barn, until the mother of the small one came to find it. I quite liked this shot with the contrast between the old bricks etc and the cute lambs. When I proudly showed it to Graham he said "shame about all those bricks and crap tho isn't it?" so now I am not so sure....
Sam was off school today because one of his teeth has become very sensitive to cold and a bit painful. The very high temperature that a was the result of a virus that he had when he was a few weeks old has resulted in the enamel on a couple of his adult back teeth not forming properly, which has caused the problem. The dentist just had to paint something onto the surface of the tooth to seal it and he was fine again. He also has a bit of white mottling on his front two teeth and on the way home I told him that if it bothers him when he is older he could have veneers. He asked me what they are made of and I said 'porcelain.' Unfortunately he misheard and thought that I had said 'horses' limbs.' I was wondering why he looked so horrified.
TBBTB* - 21, yes! 21 goldfinches on and under the feeder at the same time first thing this morning. Now I know I sound a bit ungrateful saying it, after spending so long trying to attract them, but they are THE messiest eaters, spilling about 80% of the food they take I would say.
I quite like it, rubble and all, as most shots would be grassy fields so this looks that little bit different and it is a good contrast of the soft wool and hard landscape.
there is ALL KINDS of interest in this photo Jan. there are so many different levels and layers as it recedes back into the photo that it makes a fav for me! and the rubble and bricks give it a lot of character. the back lighting gives a lovely spotlight on their outlines too!
Hear Hear @fannyb. Lovely light, lovely colours, lovely lambs and without wanting to sound like a sycophant, I *like* the bricks. I think they save it from twee.
Poor Sam's teeth. I keep meaning to take advantage of my mat exemption card and go to the dentist but there's always something else to do...
@jewelsandbinoculars thanks for the 'un-twee' comment, that is exactly the effect I was hoping for, so I would think reassuring, rather than sycophantic. Oh yeah, and get your gnashers sorted while you can!
Oh just adding my fav! You're right about the black version - stunning. And love your DOF. The 'bricks and crap' add a slightly surreal quality that I like. Must find time to go lamb hunting - if necessary I'm going to borrow my friend's toddlers and go to the farm - I'm just horribly pushed for time it seems.
I think the 'bricks and crap' add an interesting and surprising element.
I love how the mom is looking back at you and one of the babes is up on his mountain, overlooking the big field. The vastness of it must seem endless to him.
Thanks for the laugh about horses limbs and your confusion as to why he looked so horrified. LOL
Did you tell Graham that the shot with the 'bricks and crap' got 20 favs and made PP? ;-)
