nature's texture layer by jantan

nature's texture layer

I am not usually much of a one for flower photography but I am still very much confined to the garden at the moment with lots to do, but my camera and macro lens are never far away.

I took this shot of clematis montana which is just coming into flower through the greenhouse window. The windows are covered in algae at the moment, and I liked the texture layer-like effect it gave. Who needs editing software when you have got dirty greenhouse windows?

Our garden, which is open to the public for a day in two weeks time is very steep and there is a large rockery with a waterfall coming down it. It is quite a spectacular feature but has caused us no end of grief and expense over the years. The waterfall pump hasn't been switched on since last year and I must admit I have avoided doing so because it very often doesn't work when used for the first time of the year, and getting it fixed is always a bit of a nightmare. Anyway, I cleaned out all of the smelly, stagnant water from the small ponds that feed the main pond today, filled them up again, braced myself and flicked the switch. It worked!! This is such a relief because hopefully when the garden is open the waterfall will draw the visitors' eyes away from the many gaps, faults and weeds in the rest of the garden.

Graham finished moving the two tonnes of topsoil I had ordered to fill in the children's old sandpit. I want to plant it up with flowering plants for cutting. Even thought this has always been the plan he now seems to have decided that it would make a good raised bed for planting salad........ let battle commence......
lovely and soft feeling to the Jan

When I viewed this I did wonder how you edited the "smokey' look. Very effective and saves time playing around on Ribbet! Good luck with your open garden, our neighbours are doing the same!

Gorgeous soft look about it. Maybe a compromise can be reached. Such a pity one cannot get flowering lettuce!

Beautiful shot. Maybe there is a market for a dirty, algae covered filter.

I agree with you about flower shots but this time of the year you have to show some of the amazing plants coming into bloom!! Lots of work to do by the sounds of it but how rewarding, all those happy people waiting to see your efforts for charity! Will watch the battle with interest!!

Very lovely...you caught them at such a nice point in their flowering, and the lighting is lovely.

Gorgeous. I knew my not cleaning the boat windows was the right thing to do, artistically speaking.

Good news on the waterfall - you just need to divert a couple of streams...
